When working with the Blade Pile Group (BPG) on the KSD upgrade project, our design engineers worked alongside the BPG technical team to provide not only the foundation design, but also the installation solution.

The nature of the KSD upgrade mean the piling was to be completed off-shore, requiring particular machinery and an all new drive-tool unit to install the piles.

Through a comprehensive design and 3D modelling process, the team was able to create the ideal combination of pile and install unit. This initiative and ability to solve new problems lead to BPG being awarded the $2M piling contract.

BPG’s screw piles utilise a twin-blade design instead of the more traditional helix design typically seen on screw piles. This design allows for a greater installation verticality and equivalent load capacity, while reducing the supplied cost of the pile. 

The large, 219mm diameter tube of the pile was paramount to effectively sustain the torque forces applied during installation. The combination of the dual twin-blade design with the large, mitre cut tube section of the pile provided a perfect solution for this large-scale project.
